Dear Third Graders and Families,
Welcome to a new school year! I hope you had a fun, safe and restful summer. I am really looking forward to getting to know each of you this year.
During the first few weeks of school, we will be working hard on establishing classroom routines, learning expected behavior, and having fun. Third grade is an exciting year – we have great books to read, interesting math to explore, and fantastic science and social studies to jump into!
There is always a lot of business to take care of at the start of a new school year, this letter contains some helpful information.

Our Class: We are starting the year with 14 third graders.
Arrival Time: Please drop students off between 8:05 - 8:19 a.m. Grade K-4 students will line up outside of their classroom doors in the mornings.
Snack: Because our lunch starts at 12:55, we will take a mid-morning snack break each day. Please bring a healthy snack to enjoy at 9:45. If you need a napkin, spoon, etc., remember to pack it with you!
Water Bottles: You are welcome to bring a water bottle to class to keep at your desk so you can drink water (only!) during class time. Please remember to take your bottle home over the weekends for a wash.
Lunch: To start the 21-22 school year, we will be offering sack lunches to families for purchase for lunch. In each sack lunch, there will be a sandwich, fruit, veggie, and milk. Each day of the week will have a different offering for the sack lunch that will be advertised. We will continue to evaluate the lunch program this year and make changes as needed. Any lunch updates will be sent to families via K12 alerts. If your child will be bringing lunch from home, please note that the microwaves will not be available. Please send “hot” items in a thermos. Also, please remember to send utensils and napkins with your child if they are bringing a lunch from home.
If you’d like to set up an account online, please contact Kristin Schmid at krschmid@tlschool.net.
Getting Home: If there is a change in your Go Home Plan, please let me know by sending a note with details or contacting the office directly.
Homework: Your MOST important homework in third grade is to read for 20 minutes each school night. We will keep a reading log in class, and you can earn coupons for responsibly completing your homework.
If class work is not finished, it may be sent home in your take home folder. Please complete and return any unfinished work the following school day.
Take Home Folder: Each third grader has a Take Home Folder that is to be carried home and returned to school every day. One side is labeled “Leave at Home” and the other “Complete and Return to School.” Please show your parents/guardians your Take Home Folder every night so they know what is happening at school. Also, feel free to send notes to me using this folder.
PE Shoes: You need a pair of shoes just for PE. They do not have to be new, but they need to be clean on the bottom and have non-marking soles.
Bookmobile: The Bookmobile will be visiting Trout Lake School this year! More information about the Bookmobile schedule is coming soon. . .
Conferences: Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for fall and spring. I am open to meet with families before scheduled conference dates and welcome your input about your child. I am available to speak with you most days between 10:10-10:50, before, or after school. The school phone number is 395-2571.
If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions the fastest way to communicate with me is through e-mail at e.miller@tlschool.net. You can also send a note to school with your child or schedule a conference. Please feel free to contact me at any time.
It’s going to be a great year!
Sincerely,
Ms. Ericka Miller, NBCT
