Drama
Syllabus and Expectations
High School Drama
Grades 9-12
Supplies
Students should keep one section of their binder for this class. All materials passed out should be kept for the entire school year. Individual projects throughout the year may require additional supplies. Chromebook, binder, and writing materials should be with students every day.
Objectives and Projects
The goal of this course is to offer a broad overview of theatre and performance techniques, as well as a historical and cultural background of drama. Students will practice speaking/performing skills in addition to creative problem-solving, playwriting, and set/prop design.
Expectations
Students will be present and ready to learn each day.
Students will respect themselves, others, and the work being done.
Students will use materials responsibly and safely.
Attendance and Participation
This class will rely heavily on classroom participation, so attendance is vital. There will also be projects that will require time spent outside of class. Work turned in late will lose 10% or one letter grade, including performances. After a full grade-check period, work will lose 40% credit and only major projects will be accepted as late.
When students are absent, they will be responsible for making up the work missed. If absences are due to illness or quarantining, materials will be made available during the absence and possible adjustments to assignments may be made depending on the length of the absence. If the absence is due to appointments or vacations, Google Classroom should be checked, and any additional work can be collected and completed upon return to school. Extended vacations that interfere with the ability to perform oral assignments, especially those done in groups, may result in a partial loss of credit like other late assignments. Unexcused absences cannot be made up.
Grading
Final Projects/Performance: 60% Participation: 40%
Electronic Devices and Music
Use of personal devices during class will be in violation of school policy as outlined on page 9 of the student handbook. If your device is out, it will be held until the end of class or on further infractions, taken to the office. Your Chromebook will be handy for researching background information for your projects and should be brought to class, especially at the beginning of a new project.
Copyright and Plagiarism
All work turned in must be original and your own. Other people’s work is vast and easy to access on the internet, but it is not there for you to copy. Likewise, you may not have another student finish your work. Work found to be copied will not receive credit.
